Thierry-Fautier-Harmonic-Final_webThierry Fautier, Harmonic – Chairperson and President
As Vice President of Video Strategy at Harmonic, Thierry Fautier is in charge of defining and driving the execution of the long term strategy of Harmonic’s video business. Fautier is currently leading the commercial requirements for ABR Multicast in the Commercial Module group of the Digital Video Broadcasting Project (DVB) consortium. He is also the current President of the Ultra HD Forum, the global organization responsible for promoting market adoption of UHD by defining industry best practices for the phased introduction of the wide set of technologies that will facilitate the next-generation viewing experience.

Fautier’s previous experience at Harmonic includes leadership positions in Solutions Marketing, where his area of responsibility covered Harmonic’s major markets, including broadcast, cable, telco, DTH and OTT, as well as multiscreen initiatives. Prior to joining Harmonic, he was Vice President of Marketing for Vsofts and held various positions at Philips in Research, Engineering and Marketing. Fautier was one of the primary drivers at Philips in the creation of MPEG technology and in the development of the first MPEG-2 STB system on chip solutions. An experienced speaker, he has presented at leading industry conferences throughout the world.

PatGriffisWebPat Griffis, Dolby Laboratories – Ultra HD Forum Vice President
As Executive Director, Technology Strategy at Dolby Laboratories, Patrick Griffis is charged with helping define future technology strategy for the company which includes identifying and tracking key technical trends, performing technical due diligence, and supporting advanced technology initiatives for the company.

Before joining Dolby, Pat spent 10 years at Microsoft leading global digital media standards strategy, including adoption of the Digital Living Network Alliance as a baseline media sharing standard in Windows 7 and standardization of Windows Media Video technology as an international SMPTE standard.

Prior to Microsoft, Pat spent 15 years at Panasonic in senior management positions, including Vice President of Strategic Product Development at Panasonic Broadcast. Pat started his career at RCA, earning eight patents in TV product design.

Pat has served two terms as President of the IEEE Consumer Electronics Society. A SMPTE Fellow, he serves on the SMPTE Executive Committee as Vice President, Education. He serves on the Board of the UHD Forum and is Dolby’s Board alternate in the UHD Alliance as well as Chair of the Compliance and Certification Working Group. Pat is member of the IBC Council, an industry executive advisory group as well as the Academy of Digital TV Pioneers. Pat holds a BSEE degree from Tufts University and an MSEE from Purdue University.

Nandhu_WebNandhu Nandhakumar, LG Electronics – Ultra HD Forum Secretary
As Senior Vice President in the office of the CTO of LG Electronics Inc., Nandhu has been leading technology initiatives, partnerships and corporate venture capital investments in areas of long-term strategic interest to LG Electronics, such as connected entertainment, health, energy and vehicle. As the former founding head of LG’s Silicon Valley based Technology Center of America, he established LP arrangements with leading VC funds, and partnerships with university research centers and national government laboratories across a broad portfolio of technologies.

Earlier, he served as CTO, VP Engineering and a Board Director of Triveni Digital, which develops and supplies products for the management and monitoring of metadata and data in broadcast DTV signals. He has also served on the faculties of the University of Texas, Austin and the University of Virginia, Charlottesville – where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses, supervised Ph.D. students, and conducted sponsored research in the areas of Computer Vision, Signal Processing, Robotics, and Machine Intelligence. He has authored more than a 100 refereed journal and conference publications, and holds several issued patents in these areas.

Dr. Nandhakumar has a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UT Austin. He is a senior member of the IEEE, and serves on the board of directors and advisory committees of various industry organizations, startups, incubators, and academic institutions.

DEklundDon Eklund, Sony – Ultra HD Forum Treasurer

Don Eklund, Senior Vice President New Format Promotion Sony Corporation of America has been a part of the launch of multiple consumer entertainment formats since starting his career at Sony. He developed and staffed the operation that launched DVD at Sony Pictures and went on to oversee the development of software tools and hardware systems which supported compression, authoring and quality control of Blu-ray. Don also participates in industry standards organizations and consortiums which focus on next generation entertainment. Don previously worked as a field engineer for JVC and Sony Electronics.

 

WilliamPicWilliam Frantz, NeuLion – Ultra HD Forum Board Member
William Frantz, Director of Product Marketing at NeuLion, manages industry relations for the leader in live sports streaming. NeuLion carries live events for major leagues including the NFL, NBA and MLS. NeuLion is also the maker of DivX software for consumers and has certified over 1 billion devices for DivX compatibility. In addition to sports and consumers apps, NeuLion carries entertainment content for major movie services such as Tribeca Shortlist and previously powered services such as WB Shop and Target Ticket. William started working on DivX products 10 years ago and has extensive experience in video encoding, streaming technology and digital rights management systems. William works as an evangelist for digital media and participates in a variety of industry forums.

SkipPizziWebSkip Pizzi, NAB – Ultra HD Forum Board Member
Skip Pizzi is Vice President of Technology Education and Outreach at the National Association of Broadcasters. His career has spanned the broadcast and new-media industries, with 13 years as an engineer and technology manager at NPR, and 11 years in various posts at Microsoft. He also spent 7 years as an editor at Broadcast Engineering magazine, and continues to act as a technology journalist and author. His most recent book is “A Broadcast Engineering Tutorial for Non-Engineers,” 4th edition, published by Focal Press.

Skip serves as Vice-Chair of the Advanced Television Standards Committee (ATSC) Technology Group 3 (TG3), which is developing the ATSC 3.0 standard. He is also Chair of the S31 Specialist Group on ATSC 3.0 System Requirements, and the Audio Testing Coordinator for ATSC 3.0. Skip is a graduate of Georgetown University, where he studied Electrical Engineering, International Economics and Fine Arts.

FadiMalakWebFadi Malak, DTS – Ultra HD Forum Board Member
A key member of the Corporate Strategy and Development team at DTS, Fadi Malak is responsible for defining the strategy and go-to-market plan for DTS’ next-generation platforms that require a complex and coordinated ecosystem play. Fadi’s current focus is on the broadcast market strategy and DTS’ new object-based audio solutions, heading strategic partnerships, international standards work, and defining new solutions architectures.
Before helping DTS create a market for object-based audio, Fadi held the position of Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives at SRS Labs, where his pioneering work on audio objects personalization and interactivity helped triggered the acquisition by DTS in 2012.

Fadi began his audio career at Dolby Laboratories, where he spent over 4 years helping Dolby break into new markets, including launching Dolby Digital Plus in emerging HD broadcast systems as well as rollout of Dolby’s new video technologies. A broadcast industry veteran, Fadi also spent 6 years with Harmonic, as Director of Business Development, helping the company launch the H.264 compression market and IPTV. In the 1990s, Fadi began his audio/video technologies career at Apple computer, as a Multimedia Technology Evangelist.
Fadi has written several papers, contributed to publications, worked on a few patent filings, spoken at numerous industry forums, and participated as a member of the ITU SG6, DVB CM & TM, ATSC, SCTE, EBU, SMPTE, and the DVD Forum. He also served on the Board of the MPEG-IF and the 3DAA.

BillRedmannBill Redmann, Technicolor – Ultra HD Forum Board Member

Bill Redmann is currently a Fellow and Director of Standards at Technicolor. Joining Technicolor in 2005, he assembled Technicolor’s Digital Cinema Interoperability Testing Center (ITC) and worldwide hard drive distribution platform.

Began his career mixing technology and entertainment by obtaining a Masters Degree in Engineering at UCLA while building practical electronic props for Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers. Twice Director of Technology at Walt Disney Imagineering, developing and fielding ride systems including Indiana Jones at Disneyland Park, and twenty interactive attractions seen at DisneyQuest, Orlando, including public-facing VR systems that have been running for 17 years.

Bill has 44 US patents issued and over 40 pending in fields including: Video Processing, Digital Cinema, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Immersive Audio, Online Media Production, Distributed Network Streaming Media and Interactive Systems, 3D Displays, Online Communities, Content Distribution to Mobile Devices, Healthy Play for Children, Travel Planning, and Electric Vehicle Infrastructure.

WadeWanWebWade Wan, Broadcom Limited – Ultra HD Forum Board Member
Technical Director, Broadband Technology – Wade oversees the complete technical development cycle of audio and video compression technology in Broadcom’s system on chip (SoC) solutions ranging from standardization to internal design and development to product deployment and support.

He is the principal member driving Broadcom’s participation in various standardization groups such as MPEG, DVB and SCTE. As a systems architect, he actively works with internal teams as well as customers and strategic partners to design and deploy several generations of video compression and decompression engines as well as features such as digital video recording, transport architectures and container format support that are present in set-top box products worldwide.
