Guidelines Working Group

Group description The Guidelines WG documents technologies related to launching Ultra HD services in the form of the “Ultra HD Forum Guidelines.”

Deliverables so far Version 1.2 of the Ultra HD Forum Guidelines was published in December 2016.
Ongoing work The Guidelines document is a living document, and is continually updated to keep pace with the rapidly developing Ultra HD ecosystem. The GWG has published v1.2 of the Guidelines, adding detail to the technologies described in v1.1. Next the GWG will continue to improve the v1.x Guidelines document and also focus on v2.0, which will include additional technologies that are entering the marketplace.
Meeting regularity The GWG meets bi-weekly by telecom and meets F2F several times per year.
Commitment to join Members of the GWG are most effective when they can participate in most telecoms. In addition, members are asked to draft and/or review text to ensure that the Guidelines document serves the industry well with timely, accurate information. Members are encouraged to share early (pre)deployment experiences with emerging Ultra HD technologies. This ensures that the Guidelines are based on real world experiences as much as possible, given the “cutting edge” nature of the subject matter.
Usual meeting time The GWG telecoms occur every two weeks on Tuesdays from 10a-11:30a ET.

 

Communications Working Group

Group description The Communications Working Group is the public face of the Forum providing all external communications and administration of external activities.  Additionally, the Forum provides the distribution channel for all Forum generated original content, manages public facing events as well as speaking engagements.  This has included the ongoing series of Masterclasses and panels at NAB and IBC where speakers share real world use cases, challenges and successes of their Ultra HD deployments. The WG also manages the online forum assets, social media and blogs.

Deliverables so far Publication of the output from the Guidelines Working Group and accompanying publicity promoting these. Trade-show booth planning and setup. Production of Masterclasses on UHD at IBC, NAB and other shows. Placement of speakers on panels at various trade shows and conferences.
Ongoing work Continued industry outreach.
Meeting regularity Every 2 weeks for 30-60 minutes, more often just before events.
Commitment to join Attendance of 75% of the WG calls and willingness to review and improve publications and willingness to help manage logistics with the various Forum events.
Usual meeting time Thursday at 9:00 PST (UTC-8)

 

Security Working Group

Group description The purpose of this WG is to provide recommendations and guidelines for security mechanisms, consistent with the outputs of other Ultra HD Forum working groups and appropriate to Ultra HD services.

Deliverables so far The WG is working on a guideline for watermarking. The document addresses the various aspects of watermarking integration and best practices. It covers the distribution chain addressing the various integration points. These guidelines also provide a common understanding of the technologies and terminologies used.

Interop Working Group

Group description Facilitating interoperability work and plug-fests to test the usability and comprehensiveness of Ultra HD and related media standards including the Forum’s Guidelines. Describe and promote the use of Ultra HD and related media services that meet the scope of the Ultra HD Forum.

Deliverables so far As of January 2017, the Interop Workgroup has undertaken 3 Interop events and supported two partner plugfest events. Most feedback shared within the forum, some comunicated in blogs and reports.
Ongoing work Preparing next Plugfest and Interop demonstartions.
Meeting regularity The WG has a call every week and about one plugfest or eqivalent per quarter.
Commitment to join Attendance of 75% of the WG calls and willingness to review and improve publications and willingness to help manage logistics with the various Forum events.
Usual meeting time Alternating Tuesday 08:30 PST (16:30 UTC) and Wednesday 16:00 PST (00:00 UTC).
